August is really a wonderful time to visit, offering weather that is starting to turn fall like, growing cooler by month’s end and rarely topping 80 degrees, and yet, as temperatures fall, summer remains in full bloom, offering a verdant retreat that will make you fall in love. Art Appreciation

The month of August starts out with one of our favorite festivals, the Annual Kimball Arts Festival. This year will be the 56th triumphant return of the festival, held on August 1-3, and it seems to get better every year, if that is at all possible. For many of us, the artists that are showing their works are family, but even if not, they become a part of our Park City family simply by manning a booth filled with their work, work that makes the world a more beautiful place to live in. The festival is known to be one of the top art festivals in the country and in its 3 days it will offer stunning masterpieces, delicious food and drinks, live music, and interactive activities that everyone will love.

We Eat All Our Veggies

It’s hard to remember that there was once a time when we didn’t like veggies, especially after we grew up and started attending the Park City Farmers Market at 1490 Lowell Avenue. Open on Wednesday afternoons (11AM-5PM) through October, there is just something wonderful about the fresh and sweet taste of produce that has been grown local, and because they offer baked goods, meats, art, and gifts, it really is our favorite place to be. We’ve even been known to play hooky from work because we need the fix of walking around the open-air market, squeezing tomatoes, smelling onions, and savoring all the free samples they give out!

Sunday Drives

Another thing we love to do on a glorious day in August is something we used to hate as children. Going for a Sunday drive back then seemed to bring endless boredom, and we honestly felt it should have been considered cruel and unusual punishment. Today, however, we long for more time to spend driving aimlessly, stopping to take pictures of the wildflowers growing alongside the road and just relishing the freedom of having time on our hands and miles to drive. Guardsman Pass is one of our favorite scenic roadways and we think it will be yours, especially as August is a beautiful time for wildflowers.

Exploring the Culinary Landscape

We know how lucky we are to live in a place with world class restaurants and on lazy summer days we don’t want to cook our own meals, we want to have someone else do the hard work and so we go out. Often. Being new to the town, however, you may feel unsure about which restaurants would enhance your vacation experience and which restaurants are forever doomed to be ignored, so why not consider a food tour? No, this isn’t something we locals do, we live here full time, and every day can be a tour of food, but it is a good option for those who are unsure where to start, and Gourmand Tours is where we suggest you begin your journey. Offering a walking and dining tour of downtown Park City, guests will learn a little about our town and taste a lot of its best cuisine. And when you find a restaurant (or three) that you really like, you can plan to return later for a full meal, knowing you won’t be disappointed.

That Peaceful Fishing Feeling

It’s summer, we don’t have to work, and we can almost hear the fish jumping in the rivers, ponds, and nearby lakes, so of course we grab our gear, a cooler, and our lucky hats and dead to the water for a morning of drowning worms. Fly fishing is a popular sport here in Park City, but if it isn’t something you are familiar, you can still fish from shore or boat, or sign up for a guided tour with Park City Fly Fishing Company and let the knowledgeable guides introduce you to something fun!
