Miner’s Day Celebration, September 1, Various Locations
Now, Labor Day is a holiday that we normally celebrate by doing absolutely nothing, but the first Monday in September has long been the day we celebrate our heritage with our annual Miner’s Day event. Since 1884, this fun event has offered exciting activities, starting with a miner’s breakfast served in City Park from 7:30 to 9:30 and costing absolutely nothing.
(Although a $5 donation is suggested, with the proceeds benefitting the hosts of the breakfast, St. Mary’s Catholic Church) Also offering a Miner’s Day BARK City 5K Run, the Running of the Balls, a parade, live music, food trucks & a beer/liquor garden, kid’s games; the list of activities you can participate in is a long one and you will be tired after, so you may want to extend your getaway at least one more day, taking the time to stay home and explore all your holiday hideaway has to offer.
Park City Point 2 Point, August 30
This endurance mountain bike race never fails to intrigue us; not enough to sign up for it, of course, the Labor Day weekend is supposed to be about leisure and fun, not hard work and exercise! But if you are interested in showing off your mad bike skills, this race takes place over some of Park City’s most difficult and fun trails, giving participants something to brag about when they return to work on Tuesday, assuming they can still walk! As there is a cap on how many can participate, 375 max, wanna-be racers who are interested now will be added to the waitlist. Don’t give up hope, though; there is plenty of time left between now and Labor Day weekend, and if past years have shown us anything, it is that anything can happen!
Canyons Golf, 3636 Willow Draw Road
Park City is not a year-round golf destination, but the courses are still open this last official weekend of summer, and if you are an enthusiast, Canyons Golf may provide an ideal way to soak in the sunshine. Carved out of the mountain landscape and offering 18 holes, the course was designed by architects Gene and Casey Bates, and the dramatic views may provide a detriment to your game, simply because you can’t keep your eyes off the scenery and on your ball! Beverage carts will offer your favorite drinks, and although you can’t smoke cigarettes on the course, no one will judge you if your game is smoking hot!
No Name Saloon, 447 Main Street
The nights can be as exciting as the daytime hours, especially when you choose to visit the No Name Saloon for a night of fun and food, including their world-famous bison burgers. For 25 years, No Name has occupied the 1905 brick building on Main Street, also offering a peek into the past as guests enjoy a menu that is both modern and traditional. Their cocktail menu is befitting of an old miner’s town, offering drinks such as the Alpine Toddy, No Name Bloody, and one of our favorites, Something about Rosemary, but even if you choose a cold beer or a smooth wine, you are sure to have a good time celebrating Labor Day in Park City at the No Name Saloon!
